11700k vs 5600x in gaming?
I'm evaluating two options for my new gaming setup. The 11700k and the 5600x are both priced similarly, which makes it hard to decide. For now, I can use the 11700k until I get a 3070, but I might need a temporary GT1030 with the 5600x until then. Which one offers better performance for my needs?
5600x likely matches performance with 11700k, but cheaper boards and coolers matter. If the 11700k uses affordable parts, I’d choose it; otherwise, go with 5600x.
The 11700k isn't available yet, but it doesn't seem significantly better than the present 10700k. It could be the most advantageous choice based on price. Regardless, since both models are near the end of their life, it's best to secure what you need now and move forward.
No upgrade route exists since the 5xxx Ryzen line is the last on AM4 and the 11-series Intel chips are the final ones for the 400/500 series boards. The situation remains uncertain. Reports suggest performance is marginally better in single-threaded scenarios and slightly slower in multi-threaded tasks. It seems Intel may simply have stronger manufacturing capacity, making it a more accessible option if that happens.
5900x remains AM4 compatible and matches the IPC of 5600x. Upgrading won't significantly boost performance for most jobs since they offer similar core efficiency. For gaming, growth is limited to around eight cores at best. Once you need more, the design will already be too slow. You won’t be able to move beyond a 5950x on current Ryzen boards. B550/X570 and Z490/Z590 are essentially outdated after the Ryzen 5000/11th series.
