11700k vs 5600x
Based on different opinions, purchasing a six-core CPU at that price in 2021 could be questionable. Eight cores offer better long-term compatibility than six cores. Remember the AM4 platform is outdated, likely being replaced by AM5 soon. The 11700K has mixed reviews, but it’s unclear. Overall, recent 8-core Intel models like the 9900K and 10700K perform similarly. I own a 9900K and haven’t upgraded in the near future. TL;DR: think about how much more capable an eight-core chip is compared to a six-core one.
The 11700k is a very demanding and powerful processor. I might opt for the 10700k first, then invest in a solid cooler (depending on your case choice) and a good z590 motherboard with overclocking potential. Alternatively, I could use the extra funds to upgrade to a better GPU. Overall, it should handle most tasks just as well or better than the 11700k. - "Future-proof" Please don't say that lol — guess which company is shifting to a new platform for their 12th generation chips?
They're both beginning anew in Q4 concerning platforms, which means it doesn't really matter. Their solutions aren't future-proof because they don't support upgrades beyond the existing 11th/4th generation choices. The only way to ensure longevity is by adding more cores if your needs evolve to take advantage of them.
I noticed the word 'future proof' was included. It’s meant to indicate a longer lifespan before an upgrade is needed. The 8-core configuration should outlast the 6-core version, that’s clear.
I owned two Chevy minivans in succession, which ended up leaving me with debt and a Hyundai.
For me, six cores deliver impressive performance. I’m not focused on content creation or heavy transcoding work. Coming from a Z77 platform, I expected a strong upgrade. However, DDR5 is coming soon, so investing in a new high-end build might not be necessary. This marks the close of DDR4—tight timings are gone, just speed with relaxed timing, similar to the end of DDR3. So, if you’re upgrading for fun, go ahead. Just remember your rig won’t stay cutting-edge long-term. As someone from Intel, I’m used to getting only one CPU generation per chipset, so I’m not disappointed there’s no upgrade path available. I’m confident this configuration remains stable, if not more so, than my old Intel systems. I knew this setup would be suitable for my kids’ use in a few years.
