11700k & Asus Prime Z590-P XMP issues reported
Hey there. Yesterday I planned a hardware upgrade from my old B550 Tomahawk with the Ryzen 7 3800XT to a 11700k and an Asus Prime Z590-P motherboard (the board is available at Microcenter if you buy the CPU). But after reinstalling Windows and adjusting the BIOS settings to enable XMP for my 3200 DDR4, the system keeps looping back. It won’t boot into Windows 10 unless XMP is disabled. The only exceptions I’ve seen it boot into are when I lower the voltage to 1.2V, which then starts in Safe Mode and crashes when a game launches. My RAM performed just fine on the B550 at 1.35V, so that’s probably not an issue there. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version I could find—it had problems with any release from the last year, but I managed to get a stable version from April 27, 2021. Anyone have ideas? I’m determined to get a fully functional PC running at 3200MHz again and not settling for 2400.
Last time i checked Motherboards were not free at all on microcenter with purchase of a cpu, the hell are you on about? its usually 30$ off with a purchase of a cpu and mobo combo. Edit: Well apparently its not at my microcenter when i checked their page, but its apparently a thing. That is VERY odd o.o Clearing inventory i suppose? Also curious why did you basically sidegrade? The 3800XT and the 11700k are pretty damn close to performance with one another. #2 Ram is ram, some motherboards and cpus do well with them, some dont. That ram is more then likely just not validated on the board, you can check the QVL list. #3 Bios update, sometimes these have to be done in steps, again check the Bios update list, sometimes they list it in a specific order to update. They are pretty messy sometimes, but just gotta go through the list and get the most stable up to date one. Since that will fix some of the issues with ram instability. Worst comes to worst, enable XMP, run it at 3000 mhz and see if it works. Other then that, you may just have to try another kit of ram and put that on your other system. This is what i usually do, i just buy the QVL ram listed for the MOBO and go from there.
Also, have you considered disabling XMP, adjusting the voltage to 1.35V, setting the RAM speed to 3200MHz, and using the timing values listed on the package (like CL16-18-18-38 or similar)? Sometimes these changes help get it working.
