The results show 11600 and 12400 as identical, but that seems inconsistent. Is there something you'd like me to clarify?

Userbenchmark isn't a trustworthy or precise site. I'd avoid it completely and stick to other options. They're quite different, and results will vary significantly. They're not far apart, but the 12400 is likely to perform better overall.

It could be confusing because improvements are gradual across generations. A 400 now matches what a previous generation of 600 could do, and similar patterns happen—like a newer 3070TI outperforming an older 2080S.

The 12400 performs roughly 5% better, that's all. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes, the 12400 should work for an upgrade from 8700.

The 12400 offers significant performance over the 8700 when measured at the same clock speed. I upgraded from an 8700K to a B660-G and then switched to the 12400F. Both models delivered around 4.7 GHz, with the 12400F adding roughly 500 extra points on 3DMark Firesteike using a GTX 980 KPE. CSGO also saw about 100 more frames per second. The only downside is the use of DDR5 memory, which can be costly, though 13th generation support ensures strong performance. Overall, it’s a solid upgrade path. My experience has been positive. It isn’t the absolute fastest stock CPU, but it’s a low-end i5, not an i9. The investment is worthwhile. I opted for a 2x8GB DDR5 kit to keep costs manageable, and the total build cost came to around $575.

It varies. Even with higher numbers, it might not count if your setup isn’t handling it well. CSGO could see a boost, but if your monitor can’t keep up, the gain is likely negligible. Unless the performance doesn’t match what you need, skip it. I’m using a 10900k with similar specs to an 8700, and I’m unsure if a top-tier Raptor Lake will really help. I’d only think about upgrading if I had a strong CPU like an Intel quad-core or later, or a 2nd-gen Ryzen or older model.

The 8700 isn't worth the upgrade cost.

I retained the 8700 model. Unclear why, but it offers some financial benefit. Likely to help cover my own losses, though it remains in the case just in case. Upgrading was definitely worthwhile. However, I noticed a recommendation to move to an older RYZEN generation, which would be a downgrade. The 5600X is the only upgrade option for an 8700 since it performs better than other Ryzen chips.

The model runs about 30% slower on single-core tasks and just 20% slower with multi-core workloads. Unless the application demands over 200fps and has a powerful GPU capable of 4K output, the i7 remains adequate. It handles the 3080 well even at 4K resolution.
