Considering an upgrade, the question is whether your Intel i5 4690k will fit in a 1151 v1, v2, 2011, 2011-3 or a 2066 CPU slot. Updated March 28, 2020 by Kasper K.G.

Your processor fits only a socket 1150, not a Z97. A compatible motherboard would be best.

The Z79 is exclusive to AMD, so I prefer Intel instead.

Z97 is the chipset designed for overclocking and debuted with Devil's Canyon, which includes the i5-4690K among its CPUs. It was among the first to support NVMe drives. If you're referring to lacking M.2 slots for SSDs, this would be your sole choice if you wish to retain your CPU.

I own an ASUS Z97-A USB 3.0 motherboard featuring an M.2 port, though it only supports two PCIe SSDs. It remains a solid choice despite being one of the more basic models from that era. Unfortunately, I don’t have a K-series CPU to fully utilize its overclocking features. I acquired it second-hand on Kijiji for 50 CAD, which gives you a sense of the market value if you’re not in a hurry.
