11400f power constraint
11400f power constraint
Hello, I recently purchased an i5 11400f paired with an ASRock B560 PRO4 motherboard. I'm curious about adjusting or lowering the power limit (65W) on the processor. When operating at full load or above 70%, the frequency drops noticeably. During a Blender BMW test, it took 4 minutes and 54 seconds to complete, with the frequency gradually reducing until it reached 3200 MHz. I captured a screenshot of the BIOS and believe there are options for power limits and similar settings. I've explored Gear1/2 configurations and set mine to Gear1 with XMP 2.0 enabled. My RAM is 2666 MHz, HyperX, and I can handle higher power draw thanks to a water cooler (Mastermaster Liquid 240h), a well-ventilated case with three intakes and one exhaust. What adjustments should I make to achieve that performance? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Consider adjusting the Long Duration Power Limit to 154W, aligning it with the short duration limit. Ensure that when switching between the two limits, the timing changes don't impact performance. If your cooling system functions well, you may increase both values further. This adjustment likely won't matter if your tasks rarely consume high power.
Keep things within the highest allowed bounds, and you should be okay; otherwise, it will slow down regardless.
Thank you for your guidance. I had concerns about overheating if I raised the wattage—it might damage things. The motherboard restricts the CPU due to its Long Duration Power Limit; once it hits 65W, performance drops. Appreciate all the advice and have a great day!
