Hello! I'm setting up a gaming rig using parts from an old mining machine and some extra components. I'm aiming to run the 3080 in 4K with minimal cost. My current build includes:
- GB RTX3080 10G Gaming OC (GB B460M DS3H V2)
- 1x 8GB 2666MHz RAM
- 1x 250GB M2 NVMe SSD
- 1x Corsair 5000D Airflow PSU
- 6x 120mm fans in an 8-core M2 case
- 2TB SATA SSD for games (keeping M2 for OS)
- Another 8GB RAM stick for a total of 16GB in dual channel
Regarding your questions:
1. Will this configuration limit the 3080's performance at 4K?
I think it should handle it well, but keep an eye on thermal management and power delivery.
2. Can the motherboard support RAM overclocking?

You already own that motherboard? I didn't have a solid experience with a Gigabyte Z490 running Rocket Lake. It wasn't stable, and the latest BIOS microcode for Rocket Lake was quite outdated. If you're okay swapping to a B560 chipset, it supports RAM overclocking and is built for 11th generation. In the worst scenario, you might need to replace the motherboard if there are any issues. Performance-wise, an 11400 should work well if your board allows higher power limits. If it sticks to the original TDP, clocks could drop, affecting performance. The 10400F should also be fine under the same conditions, and it might be a safer choice with a 400 chipset.
You already have the motherboard ready. Knowing I’ll upgrade to 10400F is reassuring. I expect B460/H470 to support RAM overclocking as well, and I plan to use a 3000Mhz clock for extra performance. You’ll receive PCIe 4.0 and OC support, plus a powerful CPU that handles most tasks without restricting your 3080. Finding such a budget CPU for that GPU feels unusual.
