I considered adding another 10Gbps NIC card and checked HP options since I have a bunch of 12 SFP+ ports from an auction. I also wondered if they’re compatible with any NIC card.

Fiber transceivers tend to be specific and generally connect only with certain interfaces built for them. However, FS transceivers often manage to avoid most vendor restrictions. The device claims support for 200 vendors, meaning you should encounter no problems.
