Hello to all. The pandemic pushed me to work more from home, and unfortunately my old NAS stopped working. Now I’m aiming higher—switching to 10Gbe connections between my workstation and NAS. The new NAS will be built from an old PC with an FX processor, and I plan to upgrade it into a rackable server case for bigger capacity. Having a reliable backup on the NAS was challenging. Moving large files to it felt like a long process, and now I need to improve speed. I’m trying to create a link between my NAS and PC, but there’s another hurdle: currently, my modem and router are in the room with the PC, using a coaxial line. In a few years I’ll get fiber, but now it’s still coaxial inside a PVC pipe, routed through concrete walls—making it hard to move the NAS and network gear. Because I need the coaxial line for TV, I’m stuck using fiber optic instead. The CAT cable won’t fit through the PVC, and running it through walls is both time-consuming and not very attractive. I’m searching for a switch with 2SFP+ 10Gb ports and a few 1Gb RJ ports at a reasonable price. In my country, 10Gbe RJ45 gear is expensive, but a friend refurbished two servers with SFP+ NICs, letting me get them cheaply. That connection could help me afford fiber optic later.

Thank you for your reply. Romania is the location, and the microTik costs around $420 without tax. We offer high-speed internet (1Gb), but all gear with more than 1Gb is quite expensive. ... I discovered the same at a better price and I’m considering going ahead. Appreciate your time!

Mikrotik is a Latvian business, but Romania and Latvia are both EU members. That’s straightforward. Yes, you can place an order on Eurodk.com.

Skip the nonsense about Romania; you're not worth it. You can easily purchase from Amazon UK or other EU retailers. Although the UK is no longer part of the EU, customs duties on packages under 150 euros are waived, and even if they apply, they usually stay below 3-5%. On Amazon UK you'll find the Mikrotik model for 126 pounds here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mikrotik-CSS326...08437SXTM/ And a similar option from Euro DK at 111 pounds: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloud-Smart-Swi...0723DT6MN/. It might be cheaper at checkout because of VAT differences (20% in the UK vs 19% in Romania), and shipping costs could be around 5-10 pounds. You can also buy directly from Microtik or check their distributor list for any country that ships to Romania or the EU—many offer reasonable rates. Alternatively, consider the NETGEAR switch listed: it's a 10-port Gigabit unmanaged model with various sizes and protection features, available at Amazon.co.uk for 170 pounds.
