10900K paired with ASUS Z490 ITX and 32GB dual drives = significant issues
I constructed my initial mini-ITX build but encountered several challenges. Initially, the components I used include an i9 processor with a 10900K, an ASUS Z490-I Z490 Mini ITX case, and a G.SKILL Trident Z Neo Series 64GB RAM module (2 x 32GB). The NZXT Z63 AIO also came with me. First challenge: the system struggles with two 32GB DRAMs simultaneously, becoming very unstable—freezing and crashing even when installing Windows. I attempted to install just one DRAM, which resolved the issue completely. Everything functions normally now. What could be causing this behavior? The board supports up to 64GB, but can it actually handle two 32GB modules? Possible BIOS or motherboard problems? Second concern: wireless LAN isn’t working despite connecting the antenna to the board. I received my SSID but no internet access. My wired connection works perfectly. The wireless side remains offline. Is there something missing or misconfigured? Also, regarding the Z63 AIO, I suspect the temperature display is showing 90 degrees Celsius in reverse (CCW). This seems like a known issue. Any advice for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help.
The issue could lie with your memory controller. Have you connected both cables? The motherboard seems fine, so it’s likely more than capable of handling your RAM. However, there’s a risk of an IMC problem. If the new RAM fails, consider returning it for repair.
The 10900k offers the top IMC available, though it might be due to a bios update. A new bios could resolve this issue.
Could be a new user experience with the Z490. Make sure to update your BIOS if needed and keep an eye out for future releases.
Ensure the most recent software updates are installed and verify the latest system information.
Great! You've updated the BIOS, though it's been about a month. I'll reach out to ASUS support to log this problem.
It shows excellent IMC, but there could be an issue or glitch in the 10.9M unit.
I experienced the same problem with my first Z490-I. The Windows setup failed when there was any RAM in the B slot. I'm sending it back for repair. The second unit worked without issues, but now I face frequent freezes or reboots—twice to three times daily. Some suggest it's a BIOS-related issue. Any advice or results you've had?
I've encountered the same problems with the z490i from ASUS—seems like many users are facing similar challenges. It looks like the only option might be to return the board and switch to a non-ASUS alternative. It's really frustrating that ASUS hasn't addressed this yet. Could it have been a defective batch, or is there a chance a BIOS update could help? I'm starting to feel a bit hopeless.
