I understand it's better, but I never purchase a locked CPU and motherboard. I always try to use my hardware fully. If I choose a 12th gen, it should be a 12600K with a Z690 board—probably an ASUS model since I like their BIOS now after using a Gigabyte board. For a 12th gen, the minimum would be a 12700K. I don’t want to jump from 6/12 to... what? 10/16? 6/16? 6/12? I know there are logical cores or some unusual changes with the 12th gen, and I also noticed it only works on Windows 11, which I’m not upgrading to (guess that’s right). My AIO isn’t compatible with LGA 1700 either.

I'm not convinced about getting a B660 that can throttle at 12700F. The 12700K offers a faster clock speed, which is important for CSGO, and a good B660 usually costs around a Z690. In CSGO I notice a noticeable performance improvement. I also have a 240Hz monitor, so every frame really matters.

The B660 has 14 phases, which isn't enough to handle a 12,900k OC setup.

The scheduler for W11 performs marginally better with the e cores and p cores of Alder Lake compared to W10, though you can definitely run Alder Lake on W10.

You're likely aiming to raise the temperature by 10°C instead of reducing it. Liquid metal and solder have similar thermal conductivity. To decrease the temperature by 10°C, removing the IHS plate and using a custom loop is an option—but not recommended. The cooling method should rely on ambient air temperature. It's better to lower the ambient air temperature than risk damaging the chip. Either approach works, but good luck!
