You can increase the frequency by 100-200MHz thanks to the boost rating. Keep in mind, you can't directly compare Intel and AMD frequencies. At 4.7 GHz it can surpass Intel at 5+GHz, which makes little sense.
Unless your workload demands eight cores, keep costs low—opt for a 5600X. In gaming it’s about the same; even lower speeds like 3600 or 2600 usually hit GPU limits unless you’re running on a 3080 or 6800XT at 1080p.
I own an i9 10900k system and think it’s quite powerful. There are several drawbacks to consider. You’ll need an excellent motherboard. Currently I’m running at 330 watts with a full-core 5.3GHz overclock and stock settings. Strong cooling is essential. A 360mm AIO is the bare minimum. In most titles it doesn’t offer much improvement over an Intel 6-core chip. Even with everything I have, I’d prefer to upgrade. The performance remains smooth and enjoyable. All my previous games ran just as well on my i7 8086k setup, despite similar frame rates. My i9 9900k feels almost identical in gaming. It’s likely the boost technology in the i9 10900k and not the i9 9900k that makes the difference. I’m certain I wouldn’t choose an Intel CPU lacking thermal velocity boost. I might test a 5800X later, but for now I’m convinced the i9 is the one I should have.
5.3ghz is fine in theory, but not everyone handles it effortlessly.
It performs very well at 5.3ghz yet slows down on some systems. Unlike other Intel processors, it stops cooling before reaching its clock limits. Currently, I use TVB to keep temperatures under 70°C. This setup outperforms the i7 8086k and i9 9900k when all cores run at 5GHz overclocks in most games. It also surpasses a 5.1ghz CPU overclock in games, though not in benchmarks because it can't sustain 5.3ghz on any single core if temperatures rise above 70°C. Overall, it's quite unusual, so I wouldn't strongly recommend it but appreciate having it.
I believe the 5800x performs better overall than the 10900k. You can manage with a 240aio or an air cooler using the 5800x, whereas the 10900k needs a 280 with a 360 recommended. The costs balance out, so I don’t see a need for the 10900k if the 5800x is available.
