I consistently experience stuttering and low FPS in nearly all games I play. I believe the primary cause is CPU bottlenecking. My system consists of an RTX Strix 1080ti, an i7-4790k with a liquid cooler, and a Maximus VII Hero motherboard. Testing revealed that the CPU consistently reached 100% utilization while the GPU remained at approximately 30%. I extensively adjusted display settings and Nvidia control panel configurations, but performance in games like Watchdogs 2 only achieved 40-50 FPS at 1440p and 4K resolutions. Given these results, should I upgrade my CPU? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Adjust the CPU clock speed directly within the BIOS settings, rather than utilizing external software applications.

Certain games can be limited by your CPU, but there might be other factors involved. Have you overclocked your CPU? Have you monitored temperatures? Is WD2 the only game experiencing this issue?

Overclocking completed. CPU temperatures remain nominal. Further testing required across multiple games. Encountered the same issue while playing Blair Witch, despite GPU nearing 100% utilization.

Select a CPU cooler capable of dissipating heat sufficient for overclocking your processor to approximately 4.7 GHz, which would benefit performance in CPU-intensive games.

A Corsair SSD – unsure of the exact model – and what software recommendations would you suggest for overclocking?

1440p delivers 35-50 frames per second on high settings, not ultra.

Despite limited experience with Watch Dogs 2, its reputation for inconsistent frame rates is understood. A 1080 Ti achieves approximately 35 frames per second at 4K resolution while playing The Division 2.

Overclock the CPU directly in the BIOS, not using third-party software.
