I've been giving it more thought and decided to keep the 5600x. This way I can upgrade the CPU for more cores if needed later, and I'm aiming for PCIe gen 4. It's been a while since I bought AMD—remember the Athlon 64 x2 days?

I prefer Geekbench for these gaming/single-core tests. A Comet Lake CPU at full capacity usually hits around 1550 single-core. I've noticed many in the 1750s and above with Zen 3. Rocket Lake is said to be about 20% faster than Comet Lake at stock prices, and Intel is really tightening that final margin.

Final confirmation: B&H sent the 5600x (ordered on the 22nd). I skipped the RAM upgrade and grabbed an Open Box Asus STRIX B550-E for $199. It was a quick choice—just $20 for the BIOS flashback button, error codes, and Wi-Fi 6.
