10700 or 10700kf
I was weighing the i7 10700 versus the i7 10700KF at the same price point. My motherboard will be the MSI Z490 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi with a 240mm AIO cooler. I don’t really need built-in graphics, but I’m unsure if boosting the 10700KF would be worthwhile since I prefer plug-and-play setups.
IIRC 10700 all-core runs at about 4.6 GHz, with only a 100-200 MHz boost on the 10700k. You might get good results by using just the 10700 and cutting power limits. At that frequency, the difference between 4.6 and 4.8 is minimal, and even from 4.8 to 5.2 it's not significant.
However, 5.2 can earn you respect on the streets and among online communities.
I keep things running smoothly by getting others to stay in line. This isn’t a serious point, OP. If the 10700 is more affordable and you don’t need to boost performance, go with that model. It also includes an integrated GPU, which can be handy occasionally.
It's interesting to note the costs I've put into my setup. I've spent a total of $1050 on components, with specific amounts going toward the 10900k, Z590, memory, and cooling. In games, I could have saved money by choosing lower-end options like a 10700 or B560, along with a basic cooler for around $550. The differences in performance seem minimal, so who really stands out as the better choice?
