10600K to 4790k upgrade
Hello everyone, I'm struggling to choose the best CPU upgrade for my old 4790k. It's mainly for gaming and office tasks like Excel and Outlook, so I don't really need a high-end processor. I'm considering getting the 10600k as an upgrade. Before I start purchasing the new parts, I'd like to hear some other opinions. BR
Consider upgrading to Ryzen and a 3600 processor; you'll also need a new motherboard and RAM. The 4790K and 10600K models don't share the same socket.
I understand your perspective, but I wouldn't upgrade from a 4790K to a 10600K. It still has some life left. Do you have it stocked? What options are you considering? Which GPU are you matching with these CPUs? What resolution and refresh rate are you using?
Adjusted to around 4.5 (maybe I'm not sure), it won't improve further, no matter what I try. Tested various motherboards even at 1.35V, but it still crashes in Prime95 or games running at 4.6 or 4.7. When paired with an 1080TI, I plan to swap it for an RTX3070 if it fits the budget around 600€. The 4790k would get limited in games like GTA5 and PUBG, plus some others. I have a 144Hz monitor and want to see over 90 FPS in games. I could wait for Zen 3, but once it releases, I'll likely wait for Zen 4 and so on.
