10600k or r5 3600
10600k or r5 3600
I've been weighing the options between the two builds. The Intel setup would include something like the 10600k plus a poor Gigabyte Z490M and a mediocre Patriot Viper 3600 CL17, all costing close to 600 dollars. The AMD path would involve the 3600 series with MSI B450 Tomahawk and G Skill Trident Z3600 CL16, totaling around 500 dollars. I intend to push overclocking both CPUs and memory speeds as much as possible. I'm unsure if the Intel configuration is worth it right now. Even with subpar components and still around 100 dollars over budget, the motherboard might need a fan mount on the VRM, and the RAM likely won't drop below CL15. I expect the tuned AMD build to match the Intel stock version in FPS. The big question is whether I can still overclock the Intel build with such a low-quality board and poor RAM to boost performance by over 10% for more than 100 dollars.
The board is definitely capable of managing a heavily overclocked 10600K.
For gaming purposes, Intel seems ideal. It offers over 5 GHz with all cores optimized and a cache speed of 4.7+GHz. No AMD processor can match its performance.
For a budget-friendly Intel board, consider the Z490-A Pro or the Prime Z490-P.
The Z490-P model is around $60 higher in price, but I’m focused on the VRM performance and overall build quality. As long as the VRM stays solid and I have flexibility to modify it, I’m happy with the design. I think most Z490 boards can be customized to some extent, like adjusting cache ratios.
