You're weighing two build options for your new PC. The first includes a stock cooler and motherboard for £270, while the second uses a higher-end cooler and motherboard for £280. Both require an extra case fan if you go with the R5 Config. You're planning to use it mainly for gaming, schoolwork, and some editing, with plans to pair it with a RTX 3060 (possibly non-TI) and a display of either 1080p or 1440p. Your needs seem to lean toward single-player titles like RDR2 and Witcher, plus multiplayer games such as Battlefront 2 and CSGO. Consider which setup fits your budget and performance goals best.

R5 3600 supports XMP profile, with enhanced clock speeds across all cores plus the option to overclock and potentially improve performance per instruction.

The video contains all the details about benchmarks relevant to your concerns. Here are a few points to keep in mind: The stock cooler on the R5 3600 works fine, so you wouldn’t need an aftermarket one that offers better value. The R5 3600 performs better than the i5 10400F at 1080p high refresh and for e-sports games. The B450 motherboard provides a more solid upgrade path. If your budget allows close to the same price, the R5 3600 comes out ahead.

It's confirmed. You didn't review the standards either. The 10400F runs at 4GHz across all cores.

This image is identical. "Average" needs multiple examples, not just one.

Using a simple average from just two points gives a poor estimate. When dealing with extreme values, the middle value better represents the center. With three points—two on one side and one on the other—the average tends to align closer to the side with more data. The median also works similarly in this case. The mode is only reliable when there are three or more observations.

I notice some bias in this discussion. The 10400 and 3600 models are closely related, so their differences aren't substantial. Your own benchmarks indicate only a 1% to 2% variation, meaning performance changes won't be significant regardless of choices. If prices match, opting for the Ryzen with stock cooler could still make AMD a better option due to its overclocking flexibility and upgrade potential—without claiming better results in other content creation tasks.

It might be, though you're not considering the value angle. Take a look at this:

This would be the Ryzen setup I suggest: PCPartPicker lists the parts with pricing and details.
For Intel, the recommended option is the Core i5-10400F 2.9 GHz 6-core processor priced at £128.00 on Amazon UK.
Pair it with a CPU cooler from Pure Rock Slim at £22.95 and an MSI MAG B460 TORPEDO ATX motherboard for £93.25.
Memory can be the PNY Anarchy-X 16 GB DDR4-3200 CL16 at £59.86, and all costs are covered by shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts totaling £304.06.
Switching to Intel would save you around £30 while maintaining comparable performance.
