I have a 5800K processor. Auto clock on AMD Overdrive sets it to 4.3 GHz, but it still bluescreens. I understand the CPU is outdated, though it once reached 7.9 GHz. Why can't I get overclock past 4.2 GHz turbo? I also have a better cooler now that's quiet and has plenty of room.

Lmao auto oc is really naive, don't waste time and search for CPU tuning guides. Just tweak the voltage settings a bit and add a small 0.1v to their suggestions. Old gear usually gives too cautious volt values that mess up overclocking (I can run 1.55v without issues on my x5660 while stressing p95 large ffts for hours, even though people claim over 1.35v causes damage). It shows how unreliable those recommendations can be.

Each CPU offers unique overclocking potential regardless of age. Your unit likely isn't a top-tier model. With 5000x CPUs already factory-optimized, achieving significant gains is unlikely. 5800x provides a solid boost up to 4.7, and any CPU meeting that spec will be labeled as 5700x or lower. The chance of success is low due to extensive testing by overclockers and the use of advanced cooling solutions like nitrogen. Additionally, high-end components such as ASUS Hero motherboards are commonly employed.
