Linux Mint MATE or XFCE suits older systems like the one you mentioned. I also intend to switch to Linux for gaming once Windows 10 stops supporting it, since I don’t want to spend money on an OS. I’ve got Linux Mint XFCE set up on a 2011 ThinkPad Edge with a 512GB SATA SSD. It also functions well on a 2013 MacBook Air that has just 4GB of RAM. For my gaming rig, I’m choosing Bazzite because of Steam and the requirement to run games.
