I chose to run Windows 11 alongside Zorin for testing. It functioned well initially, but once booted, it would freeze completely in the grub setup. After gaining access to Windows, I discovered that even though I installed it on my 2.5" SSD, it was setting up an EFI boot entry on the M.2 drive. I had to remove that entry because it kept reverting to the default boot option during shutdown or restart, locking me into the recovery screen. Luckily, I have a backup.

During installation, Windows prefers to connect the preferred drive. It usually uses any existing or creates an EFI bootloader on the first available drive instead of the one selected during setup.

Disconnecting the M.2 slot during installation should prevent issues with Grub loading on your system.

Choose where the storage device is set for Grub installation. It’s typical to place it on the primary drive, though you can also keep it alongside the operating system device.

Grub was placed on the SATA disk, yet the EFI boot file was saved to the M.2 device, causing my confusion.
