Hey so like many I am planning to get a Zen 3 chip to pair with my 3080 and am therefore in the market for a X570 board. I know that AMD have confirmed that X570 will work with Zen 3 but just wondering if a BIOS update would be needed and for that an older Ryzen chip? This is going to be a fresh build so I don't have an older Ryzen chip from an older system. Cheers
It will require flashing. Certain stores or shops can handle it, or you can purchase the flash kit from AMD if they continue offering it with Zen3.
It varies by board; many include a BIOS update function that works without installing any hardware. Gigabyte offers a feature named Q-Flash. You don’t need a CPU or RAM—just connect power, insert the formatted BIOS file onto a USB stick, and use the designated flashing port to apply it.
The x570 aorus elite doesn't have bios flashback functionality. If it has a bios flash back button then no, otherwise yes it will need to be updated to support zen 3. If you're waiting for zen 3 then just wait and buy a board then.
