I'm thinking about purchasing a Thunderbolt 3 PCIe for my AsRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard. I should check the manufacturers' compatibility lists, but if my configuration works at decent speeds, I realized why I wanted this in the first place—just a bit curious now. Anyone have a say? Looking into: ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 Gigabyte GC-Alpine Ridge (rev. 1.0) and AsRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC. My setup includes: CPU i7-3770K, RAM 16 Gb, as well as the motherboard.

You also need a Thunderbolt header on your board, which isn't listed in the specifications and doesn't appear on most consumer boards from that era. However, some z77 boards do include it, though I wasn't sure if it was present.

Really? It seems like a disappointment. USB 3.1 seems to match my speed perfectly. Thanks for your assistance!
