We're using the Z690 model right now. I'm really into pushing performance, but some sources say four PCIe lanes can hurt overclocking. My 12900KS is still on the list. Could Apex be a better choice? I have time soon to upgrade.

They mentioned four problematic slots. Are you referring to specific ones? Probably not unless you're pushing the system beyond typical limits. A regular board replacement usually doesn’t bring noticeable improvements worth the cost.

DDR5 memory upgrading beyond two modules isn't practical. It's even less feasible compared to DDR4 systems.

They're discussing DIMM slots. Using a board with just one DIMM per channel can slightly improve memory performance, similar to a full ATX setup but with fewer channels. For those who prefer, if you really want to run this OC 12900KS regularly, stick with your existing board.

It seems the outcome hinges on whether you need to accept a loss. If you're able to reclaim it, I'd consider taking the lead.

I plan to hold horses for a moment. A user on overclock.net shared a Formula build with a 6800 CL32, suggesting it's feasible to nearly match Apex using just two DIMMS. The water block and Thunderbolt ports catch my eye, so I'll explore it first to confirm it wasn't a waste of time.
