Hello, I recently invested a substantial amount in a high-end setup: SEASONIC PRIME 850W 80+T FM ATX NOCTUA NH-D15 CPU COOLER WD 1TB BLACK SN850 NVME SSD INTEL I9-11900K BOX 2x G.SKILL 32GB 2X16 D4 3600 CL16 RJ (F4-3600C16D-32GVKC) ASROCK Z590 TAICHI EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA. I've experienced intermittent freezes and odd behavior, but I can't pinpoint the cause. It tends to occur when the system is running heavy tasks—like playing games—but also happens randomly, such as when I was typing on a website during a normal day. My BIOS version is V2.2, and I'm using standard settings except for XMP memory profile with resizable BAR support enabled (and my GPU has been updated to support it). The case is large and well-ventilated, and I even had an intake fan blowing over the GPU. A recent Windows memory test showed no issues.
I've tried turning off resizable BAR, re-seating the cooler, and disabling ASRock's memory enhancement (which is default). I also reset the system after a hard drive failure and kept only trusted Intel and nVidia drivers. However, I recently had a blue screen while idle, and Cinebench would freeze in under a second. I attempted to run it with Auto mode instead of XMP, but that didn't help. If I disable ASRock's features (they're on by default), the system won't boot at all.
I've also reverted to Windows updates and haven't encountered any further problems. This situation is quite puzzling. Shouldn't everything be functioning smoothly now? I'm running out of options and need advice on next steps.
Based on your system setup, the PSU seems to be the main concern. Seasonic parts often face issues with the quick response times of GPUs like the 3080 and 3090, leading to problems such as unexpected shutdowns. Some users on the forum have better insights, so it would help to clarify or verify this point. @LukeSavenije @IIIIIIIIII
I usually double-check things here to be sure. Just to make sure, which RAM slots are you using? Most systems need 2 and 4 slots from the CPU side.
It seems you're experiencing some memory challenges. Let's try to address this together. What would you like to focus on?
It seems this might be the right fix. If disabling XMP works, try reactivating it while adjusting VCCSA/VCCIO and DRAM voltage slightly higher. If that doesn't help, consider lowering them to 3466 or 3200. This could be essential when using 4x16 from two separate kits.
I hadn't even noticed you had responded! Just looked back and wow. Thanks a lot for everyone sharing your thoughts. I experienced another freeze this morning after the system ran smoothly for a day or more. It froze while I was typing in Chrome—no blue screen, just normal operation. No stress on the system. But last night I played Battlefield V and Cyberpunk without any problems. So strange. Concerning memory usage, you're completely right—I didn't purchase the sticks all at once. One pair was bought at Microcenter, another at Amazon a month later. I'm planning to use the original pair now. Maybe consider returning the second one, though it's not essential.
