Operating a 10600k in my TV gaming setup is functioning perfectly, unlike the 3700X I was constructing for it and now discarded. The decision hinges on many considerations. From my perspective, if you desire top performance, choose the best option available. If not, aim for a satisfactory level. Dedicate your time to gaming rather than stressing over hardware decisions.
I prefer playing games... rather than digging through problems I've read about during several visits. Only a few people want to adjust their systems that much.
Maybe I'm not a fan of Zen 2, but I have to understand why you started it. Praise the choice!
You're likely to hit GPU limits in most games, particularly at higher resolutions. A jump from 3600x to 10600K probably won't significantly boost performance.
I don't feel that way, but I think it's due to the many small issues and rough edges on the platform, just like with anything from AMD. I also owned a 5700XT when it first came out, and the drivers were really bad.
I've used Ryzen processors from Zen through Zen 2, experiencing issues mostly that were resolved with enough BIOS updates. The final chapter for Zen 2 came when I ran a 3700X in a B450 motherboard, which I think provided too little voltage for stable performance. A +50mV adjustment helps a lot but doesn't stop random crashes or errors. I sold the CPU, keeping the old B450 motherboard because it's beyond warranty and still feels okay. I'm not sure about the CPU now, since I didn't face many problems back then when it was in a less capable board. I didn’t want to upgrade another AMD motherboard and, after winning the 10600k in a competition, I’m using it. If I were buying myself, I’d wait to see how Rocket Lake performs before committing, especially since I already have older Intel systems for testing. I’m missing many systems with 6 or more cores and up to 12+ cores, aiming for an 8-core setup for better gaming. Right now I just want to play, not test hardware.
I operate at 1080p resolution with a refresh rate of 144hz, using a 1080ti GPU.
