I believe so. Your 8700k seems fine, but the 9900k could work better in terms of heat performance.

I don't see significant gains from the latest generations yet. The 9900k model still performs well with it, and even the 8700k OC'd version holds up nicely for most tasks.

I'm being honest about my own questionable buying choices. If you're just playing and especially if you're using a 1080ti—or even a 3090, honestly—I probably won't see much improvement. But it'll feel rewarding to check your HWInfo64 and have those extra resources ready. And those rare moments when you get a few percent better results will really make each dollar count in your mind.
