The Z370 chipset board doesn't support disabling M.2 ports. You're seeking a motherboard with BIOS features to control individual M.2 slots. If such boards aren't available, are there options that let you disable all M.2 ports? I wish technology could keep these simple controls.

It doesn't make sense to do that. Lanes aren't available in empty slots.

In fact, I'm not concerned about lanes. I want to dual boot on two different disks, but only the main one is up. A virtual machine isn't needed. With SATA sticks you can access them and disconnect them if the BIOS won't let you turn off specific ports, but with an NVMe M.2 stick it's more complicated.

It's highly unusual to need to turn off a drive at such a fundamental level.

When a drive isn’t connected, the port remains completely inactive, but once inserted, there seems to be no method to disable it. It looks like the makers probably don’t offer this option either, as it doesn’t appear on current devices. You may need to contact customer support for the specific brand to find out if there’s a tricky way to achieve this.
