these numbers apply to both edge and Chrome watching the same 1080p60 video. In short, Chrome uses a lot more resources yet still causes frame drops.

Did you verify that Chrome is configured to leverage hardware acceleration?

Previously faced similar issues with Chrome, requiring a stock cooler and thermal paste for maintenance (especially during high temperatures and gaming). Performance lagged significantly in IE and Firefox, though smoother playback was achieved in Chrome. After updates and CPU overclocking with a solid cooler, everything now runs well. However, Chrome remains the source of frustration since even older browsers played back content flawlessly.

Yes, it's enabled by default. I've also tested with it disabled, which caused a less streamlined browser, but it didn't resolve the problem.

I don’t understand how long this has been happening. I didn’t see the issue on my desktop because of the faster CPU and water cooling (so fans didn’t speed up even with high load). On my old laptops, I often forced Flash Player due to certain keyboard shortcuts, but Flash can’t handle 1080p60, so the problem never appeared. Either way, I’m currently doing a clean install now, after a mistake when trying to dual boot OS X Yosemite with Windows. I’ll check if that helps.
