You're unsure about your FreeNAS and VM setup? Let's clarify what might be going wrong!
You're facing issues with your Ubuntu Server setup in FreeNAS 11.2u5. It sounds like there are several potential causes for the "device not configured" error. Have you checked the FreeNAS logs for more details? Also, ensure that the .iso file is correctly placed in the virtual CD-ROM drive and that the zVOL configuration matches your storage setup. You might want to verify the NIC settings and VLAN configurations as well. If you're still stuck, consider reaching out to FreeNAS support or reviewing community forums for similar problems.
In previous versions of FreeNAS I also attempted to run Linux in a virtual machine. Things haven’t changed much since 11.2. I was only able to get Windows to work (very awkwardly). Bhyve isn’t really a strong choice for virtualization (depending on what FreeNAS does). What do you plan to achieve with the VM?
I prefer not to use freenas; other options like proxmox work well and support zFS. Any further information? Logs?
