I understand the formatting part is simple with a USB. What’s important is what comes next. Does Windows launch immediately after installation? Is there anything else I should do besides installing it via USB? Do I need to purchase Windows? And which drivers will require downloading after the install?

after discussing some basic settings and connecting to the internet, you might need to install chipset drivers or wifi/bt drivers. windows usually installs most of them automatically, but I often check the device manager for any missing ones and visit the manufacturer’s site if necessary. you can also download drivers from your mobile support page, even if they’re already installed—it won’t cause any issues. the latest GPU drivers are often available, since windows doesn’t always update them promptly. depends on whether your key is an OEM model and if it’s linked to your Microsoft account. knowing the exact key helps with the process.

It will continue to operate without a key, though a watermark appears in the bottom corner and you can't change themes or colors. The system remains fully functional indefinitely without a key. You currently have Windows installed? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...Windows_10

Indicates you're swapping motherboard, which might mean a Windows license linked to your Microsoft account is still attached. If you can boot from it, press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type slmgr -dli and check the output for terms like RETAIL or OEM. If it shows RETAIL, you're free to move your Windows copy between devices, though only one system can remain active at once.

Installation requires logging in with an MS account. Without one, disconnect your Ethernet and select no internet connection. Stay unconnected until the screen goes black and displays "Hi".
