The disk image needs to be connected to the IDE controller, assuming everything checks out (after two months of effort and learning). Also, you can't directly swap virtual drives—especially those containing boot media. You should have better flexibility when shutting down the VM.

I believe the goal is to build a GUI with keyboard shortcuts that mimics the Deus Ex interface style. The Profile GIF seems increasingly important in this context.

Based on your input, here are the suggested distribution paths:

- **Linux from scratch** – Ultra hard mode
- **Gentoo Intermediate** – Hard mode
- **Arch Linux Easy** – Debian
- **Suse Studio** – Super easy (limited software selection)
- **Recommended GUIs**:
- Nvidia GPU – i3
- Sway (i3 variant) for better transparency
- Openbox (if tiling isn’t preferred)

Let me know if you’d like more details on any option!

So far I've successfully got Gnome 3 to run on a VM and experimented with the built-in tweak tool. I plan to examine various GUI options tomorrow. Since I'm using Arch, I think I'll choose that path.

I favor Mint personally, though Ubuntu offers great customization options.
