You're planning to get a VR headset soon—great move! Need some tips to make the most of it?
Hello! I'm excited about getting my VR headset soon, but I have some questions beforehand. Since I'm in France, I can't compare prices directly to the US. I'm unsure whether to buy the Quest 2 or a WMR like the HP VR1000, depending on how much I need. If I choose the Quest 2, I want to connect it to my PC for playing many other VR games—how do I set that up? What kind of cable is needed, and what format does it use (HDMI, DP, etc.)? For the WMR, I checked the Samsung Odyssey but none are available right now. Any tips to enhance the experience with either option would be appreciated. Thanks for reading, have a great day!
If you have the extra funds, pursuing Quest 2 over the WMR would be a smart choice. Generally, tracking performance is improved, software support is stronger, and wireless capability adds value. If the price ends up more than double, the WMR might be worth considering, but if it's close or similar in cost, go with the Quest 2. For cables, any USB-C to USB-C optical cable should work, though Oculus offers a reliable model. As long as your setup includes a USB-C port (which most VR systems have), you should be fine. I’ve seen the Oculus link for the cable—great resource! Enjoy exploring VR!
Discussed the suggestion from the Quest 2 recommendation. Avoiding the official version is fine. The price is around $109 CAD. You don’t have to use a USB-C port for the Quest 2 with Link—just a standard USB 3.1 Type-A works too. The adapter I use has been reliable without issues.
I thought that would be the best approach, so I decided to stick with the first-party option based on what I considered to be a safer choice.
