Hello,
I purchased and set up a new gaming PC in 2020. It has been my primary machine for both gaming and work since then. Recently, my PC has been shutting down unexpectedly. To fix this, I have to disconnect the UPS or turn off the PSU and then restart it. I’m unsure what’s causing this problem.

The issue began when the PC would power off automatically whenever I connected a USB stick into the USB 3.1 port on the front. Now it randomly shuts down without any visible cause. I notice the RGB lights are illuminated behind the motherboard and the cabinet’s power button is also lit, but pressing it doesn’t make a difference.

I’m not sure if the power supply unit is defective or if there’s a software-related issue.
Here are my system specifications:
- AMD Ryzen 3700x
- Zotac GeForce RTX 2070 Super Video Card
- Asus x570 Plus Tuf Gaming MB
- Cooler Master MWE 650 Gold Fully Modular PSU
- Deepcool Castle 360 RGB V2 Cooler
- Crucial P1 M.2 SSD 1TB
- G.Skills Ripjaws 32GB x 2 Memory

I have tried reinstalling USB drivers and uninstalling GPU drivers using DDU, followed by a clean reinstall. Please advise what steps I should take next.

just one second then the screen goes black without power? or does it crash with a blue screen or other details?
i’d prefer to monitor the system temperatures during operation before it crashes.

Thank you for the update.
The situation is quite unpredictable.
I haven’t started any games yet. The files were moved from one drive to another, and it caused the system to stop.
Occasionally I watch videos on YouTube or work on code, but it shuts down without warning.
When I turn it back on, the operating system fails to load after a short delay.

Occasional unexpected power cuts often point to a power supply problem.

Temperatures are within normal range. CPU reached up to 50 degrees, GPU stayed below 30. I attempted a reset and reinstall of Windows, but I'm struggling to finish one software installation correctly. Recently, while installing GeForce Experience, I kept monitoring the system temps—everything was fine except for shutdowns during the install process, which occurred twice. Should I consider reapplying thermal paste? I haven't done it since assembling the PC and I'm using a liquid cooler.

Thanks for the reply mate.
I don’t have a spare PSU to test this. Any alternative ways to confirm if it’s a PSU issue? Also, should I reapply thermal paste? Since I haven’t applied it after assembling the PC, and I’m using a liquid cooler master, what should I do?

That's what I mentioned, everything suggests the power supply. The most affordable option is to use a different one.

Do you think we have the Asus Aura Sync or Armory Crate software set up?
