Observed performance drops when hitting later waves, especially at 7 or 8 waves with many ships appearing. Framerate and GPU usage seem low compared to normal flight. Possible CPU bottleneck at 290x and 3770k.
I recall someone mentioning Roberts or another CIG team member saying something about CPU limitations, but I’m not sure if that means "This game will crash your CPU." Slick’s benchmarking was in Free Flight, without any AI involved. Looking back at all the discussions about complex AI, I wouldn’t be surprised it’s leading to bottlenecks.
Role on mantle... There is a lot to do though, every thruster on every vehicle to calculate, the ai seems fairly intelligent (be taken out by a few drifting and shooting, god know what it takes to calculate that) along with all the normal game stuff as well
The 3770K remains a powerful processor, but if it's the bottleneck in your configuration, things could get tough. I'm using it at 4.8GHz in-game without issues, yet it starts to slow things down during 3Dmark tests—something that's frustrating.
