BitLocker was activated on your machine and a unique key was created for your device. After updating your UEFI settings, that key was deleted, so you must re-enter it now. We’re unable to assist further because all data remains securely encrypted. Losing the recovery key means your information is at risk. If you have a Microsoft account linked, your recovery is stored on their servers. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=237614 Please note this in the future and consider posting to the appropriate forum section. - Thread Moved

You entered using your Microsoft account after purchasing the laptop, which means it should be connected.

This is one of those classic cases I've been tons of times. Best practice is to ALWAYS 100% of the time disable bitlocker (either by suspending it or turning it off completely) before doing any type of update that impacts that BIOS, UEFI, chipset, etc. It's even potential that it will mess up with regular driver updates to (though extremely unlikely). I've even seen computers that forget their own bitlocker key without doing updates or flashing the BIOS. As stated by GoodBytes, log into your Microsoft linked account if you have one, otherwise you will need to find another way to locate the key or you're really screwed and will lose everything. Bitlocker is very strong encryption and even data recovery experts would be helpless without that key. Why did you have your computer bitlocked without having the key stored somewhere you can access it?

Several laptop makers, such as Dell, offer devices ready to use. You only require the key from Microsoft to complete the setup.

I've never encountered that before. I've worked with many new Dell laptops for both work and personal needs, but this hasn't appeared in my experience. Is this a recent development? Are they limited to specific models? I understand your concern, and I'm just trying to clarify if I missed something.

That happened with my laptop I bought about a year and a half ago here in Brazil, it's a Dell 2 in 1 7000 series. Maybe it's a thing on some products or some regions.
