Hello! I stumbled upon some videos about bottlenecking on a PC which really piqued my interest. I wanted to dig deeper, especially since I recently purchased a 4070ti and wanted to see if my 12700k could handle it. My first move was to look at recommended bottleneck calculators that suggested a 9% bottleneck for the resolution I’m playing at. This sparked my curiosity because I hadn’t noticed my CPU running at full capacity outside of cinibench, so I decided to test it myself. I started with the Warhammer III benchmark at 2560x1440 in maximum settings, and if the results matched what the videos said there was no CPU bottleneck (see the screenshot). Then I ran the Assassin's Creed Origins; both the graphics card and CPU stayed under 100% usage. This left me a bit puzzled—was it a bottleneck issue or just that the game didn’t demand full GPU power? I noted the maximum values from Hwinfo64, though I couldn’t see the entire window because I used Shift+Win+S to capture the screen. Are there other programs I could try to confirm if my CPU is the limiting factor? Also, at what percentage would a CPU upgrade make sense? Thanks in advance for your time, and I look forward to your response. Best regards! •Beebee

Did you rely solely on the PC-Builds tool? It’s smarter to compare several calculators and average the numbers. A 12700K and 4080 on other platforms only show a 3-3.9% slowdown. I think your 12700K and 4070 Ti would perform better if you checked multiple sources.

Youre always gonna be GPU bounded on 1440p and especially on maxxed out settings. Its normal for the GPU to hardline going 99% on it. Seriously, dont eat the "bottleneck" kool-aid, because overthinking it makes you think that your PC is not good enough or your planned upgrades are going to be detrimental even when it isnt. If OP does, then this is my daily PSA that EVERY bottleneck calculators are bullshit. All of their methodology usually relies on passmark ranking and how far are they in between, or using other synthetic tests that doesnt represent even productivity workloads.

You're right. With all the extra features and pop-ups, it seems they might be trying to steer the message in a less favorable direction.

I tried a few of those tools, but everyone said my CPU was the limiting factor. My own tests showed no real bottleneck. It seems these estimates are meant to push people toward unnecessary upgrades. FPS usually sits between 100 and 165, depending on the game, and it probably maxes out at 165 because of G-Sync and the 165Hz setting.
