I have a Z170X-Gaming 5 motherboard with an Intel i5 6600K, 32GB RAM, and an RTX 2070 Super (previously had a GeForce 960). I built this tower in 2017 for gaming, 3D CAD, movie editing, programming, and more. What’s the best CPU upgrade I can make to handle 4K to 8K videos?

The i7-6700K and 7700K offer top performance, but their prices on the used side usually exceed $250 USD.

The top choices are 6700k or 7700k. Both are outdated now and could slow down a future supercomputer. I’m aware of this because my 6700k at 4.7ghz struggles with just 1070. A 2070 super will be much faster. You should upgrade the CPU and motherboard if possible, but if you can’t, a 6700k still offers some improvement.
