If it was truly a fresh version in the bpx, please reach out to Microsoft. I explained the reason for this urgency in my earlier message. Performing a clean install without using the manufacturer's restoration media might lead to issues, though activation seems unaffected.
These two changes were made on the day I mentioned. I’m removing them to check for improvements. If issues remain, I’ll reach out to Microsoft.
I've never encountered such a situation before. Usually an OEM/System Builder's License Key doesn't perform this action. It's best to reach out to Microsoft for assistance.
Thank you for your help... I located the error I made. Now I must figure out how to reinstall Windows without losing my files.
Typically, activation shouldn't interfere with the process. I rarely experience issues on my old ASUS laptop from the same era—both run 3rd gen Intel CPUs—and Windows activates normally across Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 without problems. Dell tech support claims activation failed for Windows 8.1 even after a clean install, though Windows would still activate correctly whether it's 8 or 10. They suggested reinstalling Windows 8 using their media and purchasing new keys for both 8.1 and 10. The only noticeable difference from secret shoppers is the direct link to tech support; otherwise, everything seems unchanged. Windows 8 is already out of support and has been replaced by Windows 8.1.
I downloaded Windows 10 from the official source, but made an error. I thought I had a license for Win 10 Home, not Pro. I mistakenly installed Pro instead of Home. I don’t remember how it was activated, though it’s been about six months now. Now Win caught up to me. See my previous post.
