Your USB ports aren't functioning properly.
I possess two laptops: an HP model and an Alienware unit. Each comes with its own USB-A to micro USB connection. I acquired the Alienware in 2019. My setup involved connecting my controller to the correct USB-A port, then switching between TR and WD depending on which was available. The coolpad stayed plugged in most of the time. The AL's motherboard was replaced in 2022. After about half a year, strange issues emerged. When I connected WD to the right USB-A port, it failed to appear. TR showed up similarly, but only at up to 30 Mb/s. Both WD and TR were visible when plugged into the left USB-A slot, achieving 100 Mb/s speeds. I suspected the AL's right port was deteriorating due to the dual external drives acting together. The TR worked fine on the HP model. After switching to a USB-C to micro USB cable, the situation changed. It connected reliably to the left USB-C port, and WD and TR performed well. TR occasionally dropped speeds during file transfers, sometimes reconnecting mid-transfer. I think this points to a motherboard fault, possibly from insufficient power through the USB-C port. Recently, I bought a new USB-A to micro USB cable. Using it with WD on the left port resolved the problem, and speeds stabilized at 90 Mb/s. When using the old cable, AL's right port still showed issues, but the left port worked without problems. Regarding repairs: if the ports are worn, replacing them would likely fix the issue.
