Check the reported CPU speed and see if Intel Turbo Boost activates properly. If it doesn’t, try adjusting settings or updating drivers to resolve the lag.

It runs smoothly, not lagging. The issue is likely with an outdated Windows 8 Task Manager.

Check CPU-z for speed details. For system slowdowns, use SysInternals to track performance.

Reasonable point. My motherboard can't handle overclocking, and I haven't tried it before.

Check if Hyper-V is active on your Windows 8 system. It may affect the Task Manager's CPU speed settings.

Here you are, the issue is resolved. Ensure you're using Windows 10 as well; they addressed the odd problem where the task manager slows down during the first launch in a session.
