Thanks, thats what I thought, and that's why I am here and asking, I told I am new to this testing/overclocking thing, I just wanted to do some test before I try think about overclocking. I built a few PCs in the past, but the most modern one was I did was an i5 (with 650Ti then later upgraded to 1060, but I didn't do a big overclocking/testing on that). So I built some PC already in past for myself and my family (starting with 80286, then a 486DX, then a pentium, then two x i5 (one for me one for my brother) and now this i9 10th gen. But I never did more than a simple benchmark test, I never overclocked "hard", or did stress test before, so I posted this just to double check. /Anyway I now updated the bios too to the 03/08/2020 dated one./ So do you recommend do any other test so any more test now ? or I should wait for my new GPU arriving (3080) and test CPU together with that again? I noticed after the BIOS update my XMP profile was reset again, possibly because it wasn't enabled. I fixed it and now it's set to 3200MHz. The hardware info says 1600 but I think it should be 2x1600 for dual channel. After adjusting two settings—boost from auto to 50 and fixing dynamic instead of auto—I ran the core at 50x100 (5000MHz). I tested for 15 minutes, stopped early at 10 minutes since it stayed stable for 3-4 minutes without changes. During CineBench20, I tracked temperatures and noticed only a slight rise from 30 to 35-36°C over about six minutes. The hardware log showed 30.8°C everywhere, but the NZXT Cam displayed real-time changes from 30 to 35-36°C. After that, everything remained stable for 4-5 minutes. CPU stayed between 85-86°C, liquid temperature was 35-36°C, core clock was at 5GHz, and fans ran a bit louder than usual.
Voltage adjustment to 1.28 proved reliable now. Previously, Prime95's "Small FFTS" test led to extreme heat and throttling, but after this change it stabilized within 4-5 minutes at a steady 86°C. All other benchmarks like Cinebench, Aida, and CPU-Z stress tests continued functioning smoothly with temperatures ranging between 65-70-75°C.
I share the same CPU as you but with a less efficient cooler. Running 5 GHz all cores in sync is only stable at around 1.45V unless you push to 1.45Vcore. I suspect there might be an issue with the silicon itself. What I notice is that benchmarks and stress tests like prime95, OCCT, and realbench run smoothly for about 10 to 15 minutes. However, over time, these tools will likely detect errors or instability. For me, it took around 15 minutes, which suggests the setup wasn’t reliable even with maximum voltage. I’d say a stress test lasting just 5 minutes doesn’t give a true picture. If temperatures reached 86°C in just 5 minutes, it’s very likely your tests will fail or cause overheating after 15, 30, or even 1 hour. I consider an overclock stable only if it survives 24 hours of stress testing. Ideally, run multiple stress tests for better reliability. Let me know! Also, my setup runs at 1.3V and 1.33V during load.
Last night my friend assisted me during a video call about BIOS settings. He mentioned I seem lucky with the silicon lottery—maybe I should run more tests. Stability also relies on the motherboard; mine is a mid-range model, and I picked one based on a rating from Reddit. Only a few boards got S+ marks, focusing on capacitors, build quality, heat management, etc. I chose MSI MEG Unify, Asus Maximus Hero, or the more premium options. I plan to do some quick tests now and longer ones later once my 3080 arrives and I install it, since my current setup uses an older 1060.
