It seems to occur only when opening games. I changed the CMOS battery yesterday and cleaned the GPU, which resolved the temperature issue. However, it keeps happening again. I plugged my Bluetooth headphone charger into the upper USB port, but I’m not sure if that’s the cause. Please help—I can’t figure it out.

Update GPU drivers, run DDU in safe mode, then reinstall the newest NVIDIA drivers Studio or Game Ready. Verify PSU stability; frequent sudden black screens with fans at 100% often indicate power loss. If your PSU is outdated, consider replacing it if feasible. Perform a BIOS update—your Maximus XI Hero is still running firmware version v2004. Consult the ASUS support site for the most recent BIOS/EC firmware. Conduct a stress test using tools like FurMark or 3DMark and monitor temperatures and voltages. Immediate crashes suggest power delivery issues or GPU faults. Using a Bluetooth charger is unlikely to be the cause. The problem usually stems from drivers, PSU, or GPU instability.

My PSU is quite old. I’m using the one I currently have, which has served me well for about 7 to 8 years without any problems. I’m planning to run a stress test, but my GPU drivers are up to date and I’ve reinstalled them. It’s strange because yesterday I changed my CMOS battery and cleaned out the GPU—why did this temperature adjustment resolve the issue? It only happens when I start games.

I executed the stress test on FurMark, and as anticipated, your PC crashed immediately.

Instant failure in FurMark indicates GPU hardware issues. Verify GPU temperatures via HWInfo64 if they rise—this may point to thermal problems. Consider adjusting power limits or underclocking the core through MSI Afterburner; stabilization suggests power delivery or VRAM stress. The PSU RM850x isn’t the main cause. The repeated crashes during FurMark directly indicate GPU problems. If possible, run tests with another GPU in your setup or on a different machine to verify before proceeding with repair or replacement.

GPU temps stay near 40-55°C, which seems to ease the problem. Lowering graphics settings helped get the game running. The GPU isn’t overclocked. I can’t try it on another machine since I don’t have a backup.

Temperatures between 40–55°C aren’t the main concern. Running on low graphics still causes crashes when load increases, suggesting GPU power delivery or VRAM issues. If you can’t replace GPUs, try reducing the power limit by 10–20% in MSI Afterburner and see if stability improves. Use OCCT GPU testing to quickly detect memory errors. Review Event Viewer for WHEA-Logger or nvlddmkm logs. If lowering power helps, the problem is likely GPU wear from heavy use. Otherwise, it’s time for an RMA or replacement.

Hey, so pretty much, I was playing a game and when I started streaming discord it happened again, when I restart the PC it seems to hesistate to turn on as in it turns off and turns off suddenly and takes like 2 tries before it starts, it also does open my BIOS settings. I am currently running the GPU + VRAM test

We can discuss this step by step on Discord. It would be really helpful to figure out the problem, especially since I’m not fully familiar with it.

The logs indicate a sudden power loss event. An NVIDIA driver or GPU fault is reported. The immediate crash in FurMark and difficulty starting after POST suggest GPU instability rather than a power supply issue. Possible actions: reduce power limit by 15–20% using MSI Afterburner, perform an OCCT GPU and VRAM stress test, re-seat the GPU and connectors, and inspect for dust or corrosion. If problems persist at normal or reduced speeds, the GPU is likely failing. Your RM850x remains reliable. Consistent nvlddmkm with Kernel-Power under load points toward a GPU replacement or return to manufacturer.
