According to the title, I own a Ryzen 9 5900X which typically stays under 6% usage. This seems unusual since my system struggles with rendering frames in many games when using an RTX graphics card, both with and without it. While some titles like Overwatch 2 or Rainbow Six: Siege work well, I’m concerned the processor isn’t performing as expected despite its strong specs. Could anyone assist me with this issue? My hardware includes: Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI GeForce RTX 3080, 10G GPU, four G.Skill 8GB DDR4-3600 sticks, ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming motherboard, and a CORSAIR HX Series HX1000 power supply.

Yes, but there are limits. The 5900X is built for general use, not optimized for gaming. Many games, particularly first-person shooters, depend heavily on a single core. With only about 4% of your CPU's power dedicated to one thread, it’s likely that if one thread slows down, the rest won’t compensate well. Try a game with multiple cores to see if performance improves. Also, turning off the RTX can help, as it often reduces FPS without much benefit.

The latest version with the next-gen update puts a lot of CPU strain on the system (especially with DX12), because they rely on a translation layer instead of direct DX12 support. It also struggles to make good use of multiple cores, making single-core performance the main focus. This issue isn't easily resolved.

RTX might be reducing your frame rate. Test it without RTX active to compare performance. Other enhancements such as DLSS can also improve frames, but try them one at a time.
