I’m facing an unusual problem with my CPU. Randomly, core speeds fall to around 500MHz on all cores—even dropping to 40MHz—and the system reaches full utilization. I changed the motherboard, graphics card, RAM, and storage drives, but nothing resolved it. It began after CS2 went out of beta. Sometimes it caused crashes, forcing a BIOS reset. Notably, once CPU hits about 30% usage, speeds start to decrease again. While stress testing seems stable, speeds still drop during the test.
I think VRMs are likely the issue if everything else seems cold. If you can’t locate the temperature readings, just touch the board to see what’s heating up—don’t be shocked if you get burned by the VRM since that’s the only part getting hot here. If it’s just the VRM, try directing a fan at it. If that doesn’t work, replacing the whole board might be worth about $30–40 to buy a better used model like a midranger B3/450 or similar. You could also find good deals on older versions such as Pro 4/Steel Legend, gaming plus/tomahawk, Aorus Elite/Pro, or Strix-F. For around $50.
For accurate sensor data, refer to HWInfo or Ryzen Master. Use HWMonitor with caution as it may display incorrect readings for frequencies or temperatures. HWInfo provides deeper insights into CPU limitations affecting performance.
It could be that after my final mb everything was more stable, I used b450 steel legend.
VRMs perform well at lower temperatures, while on another system with a 7600X VRM they feel warm to the touch, but on your 5600X setup they stay around 20°C.
