That's not.. the whole story.. there is a little more nuance to it. This will be a very simple breakdown. The CPU's job in a a generic game is to process frame data and then send it to the GPU. If the GPU is say, a GT 1030. A 1030 in modern AAA titles even at 1080p is going to be struggling, meaning it'll always be running as hard and as fast as it can. A 7600x won't have to work very hard to prepare this frame data for the 1030 so its basically sitting back doing nothing. The "Bottleneck" is the GPU. Lets say you're still at 1080p but you go out and buy a 4090. Now, the 4090 is immensely powerful and in nearly all titles, you're going to struggle to full load it up so its working as hard as it can. There simply isn't enough data in a rendered 1080p image (in most cases) for this to happen which means the 4090 is sitting around waiting for the CPU to feed it data that it can process. If that CPU is say an i3 10100, the 4090 is going to be waiting quite a while resulting in inconsistent gameplay. (Stuttering/hitching, etc..) Even with a 7800x3D, a 4090 is going to have a better time but that GPU is so powerful you'll still be CPU limited in some cases and your *bottleneck* is the CPU. Now, you get a 4K display. The 4090 has a LOT more data to render and its working at full potential and suddenly its the GPU that's become the bottleneck in the performance chain. This is ideal, or at least far better than the opposite. There is a balance to be had, as well. There can be more often than not situations where you're not 100% limited by the CPU or GPU, there is a balance to be struck and this will change from game to game. All this said, you bought brand new parts that aren't budget office PC stuff, you're fine, just play games and don't worry about it.

I have a 1440p display with 165hz using my RTX 4080 and also a Ryzen 7700x, making the setup nearly identical to yours. A 1440p Gsync compatible monitor would be a great improvement for your system. I’m using the LG 27gp850-b, after testing ten different models, I settled on this one. It’s a bit expensive but it should last well over eight years.

Go for 1440p, it works well even if you need 1080. You can switch to DLSS and similar options, but most times it’s fine at 1440. I use 1440 on my 2060 Super.

Hey there, I was just testing Microsoft flight sim and wasn’t expecting such low performance. I’m getting around 40-60 frames per second with high settings, and it looks like my GPU is at full capacity. It seems like some configuration might be limiting things. I’ve played the new Warzone and got 140-160 fps on high settings, so it’s probably a setting I missed. I’ve switched the GPU to use in the NVIDIA Control Panel and set it to max performance. Anyone know what could be causing this issue?

Your GPU is functioning perfectly, but it might be limiting your frame rate. To boost performance, consider upgrading to a better card or reducing graphics settings.

It seems you're curious about the visual settings of Flight Simulator. The resolution and DLSS support depend on your system configuration. If you're using a high-end GPU, you might experience full utilization. Let me know if you need help checking your settings!

I have a 7600 paired with a 7900XT, which equals a 4080. With full GPU utilization constantly, 4070 should be acceptable.

My GPU is around 30-50% and I don’t need a more powerful one. The 4070 Ti should handle flight sim 1080p at over 100 fps with ultra settings.

I tried the game at 1080p using DLAA, FXAA and DLSS, but none of them improved performance. It seems the CPU is running around 40-70% while the GPU isn’t using its full capacity. All my other titles run smoothly at 100+ frames per second. Even on my older machine with a Ryzen 7 1700 and GTX 1060 (6GB), the game performed better on lower settings. It’s frustrating because I have a powerful GPU, yet in some games the performance doesn’t reflect that.

It seems the issue isn't about performance limits but rather about how the GPU settings are configured. Adjusting options like NVIDIA Control Panel or in-game video settings might resolve the problem without needing changes. It feels like the system should automatically handle usage efficiently.
