The 5900X can handle heavy pushes, but it won’t deliver full performance from every component. When paired with an Nvidia GT1030 GPU, the GPU becomes the limiting factor, preventing the CPU from keeping up and causing noticeable delays. An AMD FX CPU would create a severe bottleneck, likely leading to stutters. The wider the difference in hardware generations, the more performance issues arise.

I understand the issue with the bottleneck, but I wasn't sure how to explain it clearly. My 9900k (equivalent to 5900x gaming performance) performed poorly on my 4080.

It likely involved another element affecting the outcome, as you mentioned they perform identically in gaming.

Check out this video comparing the i9-9900K against the 13900K and the 4090. The 9900K works just well.

I aim to preserve the excitement of a fresh setup, but if smoothness is what you’re seeking, consider investing in a G-sync display, especially since your current model is a 4090. This ensures true synchronization and removes issues like tearing and stuttering. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/pro...ors/specs/ Also, the article clarifies that excessive frame rates without matching refresh rates can cause choppy visuals—essentially missing half the image data. Think of it like a flipbook: when you skip frames instead of showing them smoothly, the result is jerky. A monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate displays every frame accurately, making motion appear fluid. This is especially important if your GPU pushes higher than your screen can handle. Keep in mind that even below the refresh rate, stuttering can happen. For optimal performance, a higher refresh rate paired with a compatible G-sync display is ideal.

There are additional factors to think about—your RAM speed is quite slow. The timing details really matter. You might assume 3600Mhz is quick, but when you look at how fast it actually accesses data, things change: clock time equals about 0.56 ns; real latency comes out to roughly 10 ns or 18/3600×1000×2. For reference, my setup with a 3200CL14 has a latency of 8.75 ns, while a 3600CL15 would give around 8.33 ns. The numbers depend on CAS delays. You may wonder if the 1.25 ns (13%) and 1.67 ns (17%) differences seem minor, but with the 4090 expecting data at such high speeds, performance issues could arise, possibly causing stuttering. I’m referring to the 4090 because it can reveal system weaknesses. My advice is to upgrade to a 3600CL15 RAM to cut latency or choose the fastest available option.

This worked perfectly in all the games I tried. It never occurred to me to look at the HZ in in-game settings, but it was often set to a completely different value than my monitor. Everything now runs smoothly thanks to that. Thank you!
