I recently purchased some RAM to upgrade my PC from 8 to 16GB of DDR4, which is the same type you currently have and have always worked well with. It should be 2x4GB at 3200MHz. However, when I installed it today, Task Manager shows only 1200MHz, and CPU-Z confirms the same. I'm using an Asrock B450 Pro4 board with the latest BIOS, but whenever I try to adjust the speed, it resets back to 1200MHz. I’m trying to figure out how to get it to run at 3000MHz.

Some ASRock boards require you to adjust the timing using XMP, while the clock settings remain unchanged. For example, with your Z390 Extreme4, you must manually configure the clock speed instead of relying on default values.

When working with clocks, you need to double them—2400MHz is the standard for DDR4. Inputting 3000MHz means trying to run RAM at 6GHz, which could lead to problems.

No, it doesn't automatically change to 1600MHz just because you pick 3200MHz in the BIOS settings. The actual frequency depends on your motherboard and chipset configuration.

DDR stands for Double Data Rate, which corresponds to a frequency of 2400 megahertz.
