Your power supply malfunctioned!
I was assembling my new computer and the GPU wasn’t functioning. I powered down the PSU but didn’t unplug it. After removing the GPU, I reinserted it properly then reset the power cable fully into the GPU. Once the PSU came back on, it emitted a loud screeching sound. After waiting 15 seconds, it flashed blue and stopped working. Now I’m unsure if I need a new PSU or if other components are damaged.
Your PSU is the unit you should power down to eliminate shorting chances. However, I highly suggest replacing it. For the remaining components, try them on a system that isn’t important to you or use a functional but inexpensive PSU. Even used prebuilt ones can be useful for basic testing, but avoid relying on them long-term.
Give it a shot to confirm the power supply is working perfectly. I bought a 1000W Corsair that suddenly stopped working and emitted smoke about a month later. Luckily I returned it for a replacement, and everything went smoothly afterward.
