I’m evaluating graphics cards now and noticed the x1 slot is positioned just below the first x16 slot. That’s why my Wi-Fi adapter isn’t fitting. There’s a bottom x16 slot, but I checked it—it should work. Just confirming it won’t obstruct airflow from the GPU, since it might sit directly under it if it does fit.

It will fit and function properly. PCIe is something that reliably performs when it matches the requirements.

M2 is still PCIe and in certain configurations this isn't always true. It overlooks the fact that some PCIe slots share lanes, meaning adding a x1 card in the lower slot can reduce the speed of the higher slot. So it functions, but the process can be more involved depending on the motherboard. If you have unused x1 slots, it's usually better to keep them as they connect directly to the chipset—avoid downgrading other slots unnecessarily.
